RainMed, an innovative medical device company from China, will collaborate with CORRIB Research Centre for Advanced Imaging and Core laboratory at University of Galway, Ireland, to carry out a coronary clinical trial. In the clinical trial, researchers will test caFFR, a coronary angiography-derived fractional flow reserve measurement system.

The CORRIB Research Centre for Advanced Imaging and Core Laboratory is a high-quality lab, with validated techniques, is audit ready with large capacity and fast turnaround times. The collaborative trial is a randomized, multicenter study involving thousands of patients with coronary artery disease. The primary objective is to evaluate the future treatment of coronary artery disease, patients' long-term survival and quality of life. Participants will be followed up regularly by research team.

In the course of subsequent clinical trial, All ngiographies will be centrally analysed with RainMed’s caFFR in the independent CORRIB Core Lab at University of Galway that will provide the investigators with clear identification of flow-limiting narrowing. Currently, caFFR system has the highest accuracy in coronary functional measurement in China. It is based on two angiograms, real-time aortic pressure and a specially-designed computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model to measure FFR. caFFR requires no pressure guidewire and no adenosine, and the functional evaluation can be performed during surgery. Compared with guidewire-based FFR, RainMed’s caFFR can evaluate the blood flow more conveniently and quickly with a diagnostic consistency of 95.7%, which provides an opportunity to expand the clinical application of coronary functional evaluation indicators.
